On Tuesday, August 26, Westport Heights held its annual "Back-To-School Night." This yearly event is a great opportunity for parents to get to know their child's new teacher and learn about classroom policies and procedures. What did you learn about your child's classroom?

Papers! Papers!! Papers!!!

Well Westport Parents, it is "the most wonderful time of year" ... for LAUSD paperwork. Emergency Cards. Student Information Cards. Behavior Contracts. It is, seemingly, non-stop this time of year. Hats off to those of you with more than one child in elementary school. You are the real heroes!

So, why all the paperwork, LAUSD?

Emergency Cards, for example, are needed "just in case." Of course, as parents, we never want anything to happen to our child. But, "just in case" it does. Wouldn't you feel better knowing that you filled in the emergency card with ACCURATE, WORKING telephone numbers?

So, be a SUPER STAR! Sit right down and get those emergency cards, etc. completely filled in and sent back to school the very next day! Trust me; your child's teacher will appreciate the effort.

Back-to-School: Are You Ready?

The transition from the lazy days of summer to the strict schedules of school can be difficult for young learners.  Which procedures do you have in place to ease your learner's return to school?

Do you modify bedtimes in late summer in anticipation of a return to school?  Do you purchase school supplies in advance or wait until the teacher requests them?

How do you handle lunch? After not packing a lunch for nearly two months, do you use the school's cafeteria? Or, are you grocery shopping for lunch foods the weekend just before school starts?

Back-To-School Tips

Hello there Westport!!! Who remembers these? They're a fun and easy way to protect your textbooks all year long. (That is, until tablets make books completely obsolete.)   ;-)

How did you personalize yours? Markers? Stickers? Glitter? Pictures of your favorite celebrity? How does your student decorate his / hers?
